I love favorite things.

I don’t mean to be redundant, but it’s those favorite things that give me a passing smile, like a whiff of his cologne. 

It’s those favorite things that give me stillness, like laying on a chaise longue and dreaming out the window. 

It’s those favorite things that make me giggle like a bite of my favorite cheesecake.

It’s Saturday afternoon and sun has started to dip. Giving off those deep orange and yellow tinges that usher you to slow down. Too early to call it a day and too late to start something grand.   

To fill the lull, perhaps experiencing one of my favorite things.

Though not a stand-alone location, the Galleria Mall makes for a substantial improvement from the mammoth malls around the city.

Stepping into Home Bakery, a cozy space akin to something in some alleyway in some other place. An L cocooning the kitchen and mounds of baked sweets. 

I take my seat next to the window; the yellow rays fall on my legs.  Laying my book down on the cool marble table I request for a caramel pecan cheesecake, my favorite thing. 

Out of the bakery floats fantastical desserts, appeasements to the inner child.  Pink cotton candy, roasted marshmallows and devilish chocolate concoctions. 

There are two tastes I find hard to resist, caramel and cream and in that order.

Before me, on a beautiful plate, a triangle, jeweled with shiny, crunchy caramelized pecans, lying on a whipped creamy cheese base. 

My fork falls effortlessly though the cheese and heard by my ears, the crunch of the caramel.

A lull no more. For that late afternoon, where it’s too early to call it a day and too late to start something grand was intended for me to experience my favorite thing. 

Which makes for a favorite moment, which makes life worth living.

Home Bakery is located in the Galleria Mall on Wasel Road. They offer desserts in all ranges from cakes, cookies, tarts and more. Prices are fair. I would frequent home bakery for late afternoon coffee or to pick up something for a dinner I was invited to. Have the caramel pecan cheesecake.
